Mentioning safety, oftentimes you will find yourself understaffed for the amount of patients you are to be providing quality care to - another UHS way of cutting corners with their staffing ratios. Cameras are used more to nitpick staff than they are for patient safety-which is their actual purpose. The only time issues get seriously addressed is following a major incident when they are pushed to by corporate- and even then, it's usually instituting a policy that wouldn't actually have prevented that incident and is just a nuisance to staff. Once you start addressing concerns to supervisors and unit directors, do not expect anything effective to be done to actually handle the issues. They will be incredibly friendly to you to suck you in. When you first start, you will be praised if you can follow basic directions and fill holes in their schedule. However, during my time here I've found the majority of the nursing administration to be ineffective and at times, rude and dismissive. Middle management isn't the source of all the issues at the facility, most of it stems from UHS. I would say if you know your personal limits and can avoid the frustration in dealing with the corporate system, it is a great entry-level position to see the reality of psychiatric care. They will call you on most of your days off trying to get you to come in to pick up shifts, management took a huge turnover the past year- and not for the better.
